This question cannot be answered conclusively. The speaker will, however, attempt to give a critical appraisal of different aspects of this often cited and belaboured concept. Not only the technical perspective but also the economical, social and political consequences will be considered. Moreover, the influence of modern IT on individual behaviour will be elucidated. All in all, the information society may well change our life but should not reshape it.
