The Curta

In the 1940s, Curt Herzstark developed the remarkable “Curta”, the smallest mechanical calculator of all time. Inspired by the idea of building a calculator that would fit into a drinking glass, he created a mechanical marvel with over 700 individual parts. In this 3D animation which forms part of his bachelor's thesis, Kai Becher explains the complex functionality of this fully-fledged machine in detail.

Here you will find a complete simulator of the Curta to try out. We hope you enjoy it!
