Zoltán Jeney, László Vidovszky and Balázs Horváth

Hungarian Accents

This event in the Arithmeum will bring together Zoltán Jeney, László Vidovszky and Balázs Horváth, three of the foremost contemporary Hungarian composers, for the first time in a joint concert. Together with other musicians, Jeney and Vidovszky, companions for many years, founded the Studio for New Music in Budapest in 1970. The younger generation of Hungarian composers profited by this institution, among them Balázs Horváth, aged 31 at the time. His teacher was Jeney and today Horváth is professor for composition at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. The programme not only reflects the differences between their works, but also reveals connections between them. Thus, these "Hungarian Accents" not only present three outstanding Hungarian composers, but also take us on an extended tour of contemporary Hungarian music. The piece "Self-Quotations" by Jeney contrasts sharply with the many-sided piece "Paros" by Vidovszky and the piece "and the ice is cracking around you too" by Horváth from the year 2003. The performers are Gergely Ittzés (flute), Csaba Klenyán (clarinet), Balázs Bujtor (violin), György Déri (cello), Aurél Holló (percussion), Balázs Futó (piano), and Balázs Horváth (conductor). The three composers will be present at the concert and will introduce their pieces.
