Okinawa as Symbol of the Plurality of Japan

Prof. Kurayoshi Takara

Professor Kurayoshi Takara from the Ryûkyû University in Japan will be the speaker at one of the public lectures in the Arithmeum and will speak at the above time on the history and culture of Okinawa.

In view of the summit meeting of the G-8 heads of government on Okinawa in June of this year, Professor Takara will endeavor to show that a proper understanding of Japan can only be gained by including a consideration of the culture and history of Ryûkyû. The lecture will be in Japanese and will be translated by Professor Kreiner, Director of the Seminar for Japanese Studies at the University of Bonn.
