Do you frequently travel by train? Then you have no doubt been faced with the problem of finding good train connections for your journey. Typically, the railway information center offers you the fastest connections, but you are perhaps more interested in greater comfort (fewer changes and emptier carriages) or cheaper fares.
In this lecture we shall elucidate how the problem of finding good train connections for different criteria can be modelled mathematically, which basic algorithmic methods are used to advise the traveller, and what one can do algorithmically in order to speed up the process.
