Public talk at the Dies Academicus

»It's logical! - Why computers and humans do their calculations so differently.«

Prof. Dr. Dieter Rautenbach, Institute for Discrete Mathematics

6 p.m. Gerhard-Konow-Hörsaal at the Arithmeum

When adding two numbers, i.e. on a piece of paper, we unconcsiously use basic algorithms we already learned in primary school. To make a computer do similar calculation a matching algorithm has to be solidly »wired« between the chip's different elements connecting these to each other.

Usually it would not make sense to let the computer use the same algorithm humans would choose. In his lectures Prof. Rautenbach will explain and exemplify how to choose the right kind of algorithms for humans and computers.
