Josua Reichert in the Arithmeum

Ina Prinz (ed.). Bouvier Verlag. Bonn 1999. 55 pages, 32 color prints.

This catalog presents the first artist featured in the Arithmeum: Josua Reichert. Originally attracted to the variety of forms of the alphabet by printing psalms, he has made letters the central motif of his works.
As abstract design elements, they combine strict geometry with earthy colors and lend the prints a warm expressiveness.
Reichert uses unusual printing techniques - from the foot stamp to the knee lever press to large-format hand printing with a tablespoon. The highlight is the “Chaim Alphabet”, the first proofs of which were presented to the public for the first time here in the Arithmeum.
