Ina Prinz (ed.). Bouvier Verlag. Bonn 2000. 59 pages, 47 color prints.

This catalog documents the Arithmeum's second temporary exhibition (February 15 - May 12, 2000), which was dedicated to the concrete artist Horst Bartnig (born 1936 in Militsch, Silesia). With over 120 exhibits - paintings and sculptures - Bartnig's uncompromisingly systematic approach was revealed, in which computer calculations for variation possibilities provide rules, but the final color and form design is left to artistic intuition.
It is precisely this contrast between rigor and creative freedom that gives Bartnig's works their unmistakable power. As a special highlight, four new large wooden sculptures were created for the exhibition, which translate his principle of variation into space.
