Günter Fruhtrunk is one of the most influential representatives of concrete art in Germany. After dropping out of architecture school and experiencing the impact of the war in Finland, he studied under Fernand Léger and Willi Baumeister, where he discovered abstract painting for himself. The focus of this presentation at the Arithmeum is his work Bewegtes Grün, whose parallel bands of color oscillate between harmony and restlessness and allow the viewer to “drown in green”. The show sheds light on Fruhtrunk's artistic development, his characteristic visual language and the tension between order and irritation that continues to fascinate today.
