Adolf Richard Fleischmann in the Arithmeum

Ina Prinz (ed.). Bouvier Verlag. Bonn 2002. 59 pages, 41 color prints.

This catalog is dedicated to the work of Adolf Richard Fleischmann (1892-1968), who developed his own pictorial language between strictly constructive art and painterly poetry. Born in Esslingen am Neckar, he worked in Italy and Paris before finding his own unmistakable style of painting, combining precise compositions and an almost expressive brushstroke. His characteristic rectangular structures, lively vibrations of color and experiments with materials such as corrugated cardboard made him internationally renowned and made him an early pioneer of optical effects in abstract art. In this catalog, Fleischmann's formal austerity and his irrepressible, poetic joy of color can be experienced in all their facets.
