Colorful columns

The transparency of science - this is what the steel and glass façade of the Arithmeum stands for. However, in order to achieve filigree and lightness, columns are necessary in the building, which take on the supporting function.

In addition to the functionality of columns, the children also learn about their historical development from antiquity to modern times. The architecture of the Greeks was based on certain rules and this is how the division into base, shaft and capital and the five classical column orders came about.

In the Arithmeum, however, the columns are kept simple. Only the four columns in the foyer were colorfully designed by French artist Guy de Rougemont for the Arithmeum.

Using cardboard tubes and colorful strips of paper, the children create their own miniature columns in Rougemont's style.
