Brunsviga B
Pinwheel machine
1896
Model B was built from 1893 to 1927 in different versions. In company reports the total number of 27,300 copies is mentioned. The early machines - like the present specimen - were still equipped quite incompletely , they were directly connected to the first model with short crank (FDM 7055), which was only built in 1892/93, but had a crank axle that was about 6 cm longer, so that injuries to the hand on the carriage that was pushed to the right were avoided. The crank is not secured against reversal of the direction of rotation during a raking operation, as all safety devices are missing. The decimal transfer in the result mechanism runs only up to the 10th digit. The decimal point position is indicated by pins (usually missing). There is no deletion of the setting mechanism yet. The carriage displacement consists only of a simple lever to release the locking device. The equipment mentioned here has been gradually incorporated into the current product, which is often referred to in the relevant sales advertisements. Franz Trinks refers to these improvements in his 1927 essay and also mentions some of the years of introduction. In the Arithmeum, this development process, which has lasted for years, can be followed in the sub-collection of Brunsviga B models.
