Excelsior (Millionär)

Direct multiplier with multiplication block

ca. 1898

The machine from the earliest production is possibly an experimental copy: It has no switch to the four basic arithmetic operations like the serial models of the millionaire, it is only set up for addition and multiplication (with automatic shifting of digits). However, the technical equipment is the same as that of the Millionaire and is based on Otto Steiger's patents. Another special feature of this machine is the low capacity, which is only found in this model. Maybe it was to be introduced to the market as a cheap economy version, but no other copy of the Excelsior (excelsus: lat. excellent) has become known so far.
