Comptometer M

Swing lever machine

ca. 1949

Shortly before the outbreak of the 2nd World War, Model J was replaced by Model M. It now had a dark green case with shrink-wrap paint, and the inscription "Comptometer" on the front was modernized, changing from a linked cursive script to single letters. Material shortages during the war prompted designers to develop cutbacks, and later steel parts were replaced with aluminum parts. The tens carry was still done in an elaborate form with a gear mechanism and wing discs, as already developed by Felt around 1910 (US 960528) (and not by a planetary gear). Model M was succeeded in 1950 by Model 3D11, which differed externally from Model M by the relocation of the brand name from the front to the deck case behind the keyboard. Around 1950, the Addicalco was launched in Italy, which borrowed heavily from the Model J. The Model M was produced in three sizes from 1939 - 1950: 8/9-digit, 10/11-digit and 12/13-digit; they cost between 2000 and 3000 DM in 1950.
