Auguste Herbin. Alphabet plastique

Ina Prinz (ed.). Bouvier Verlag. Bonn 2002. 59 pages, 32 color prints.

Auguste Herbin is considered one of the pioneers of geometric-constructivist art in France. His “Alphabet plastique” combines letters, colors, shapes and tones in a composition that appears clear at first glance, but is surprisingly multi-layered on closer inspection, as illustrated in this catalog. As a member of the “Abstraction-Création” and “Réalités Nouvelles” groups, he had a decisive influence on the development of modern abstract art.
