Reckoning in the Past

Multiplication with Napier’s rods

In the early seventeenth century, the Scotsman John Napier invented his reckoning rods for doing multiplication. Within only a few years, Napier's rods were all the rage in Europe. Together, we shall see that multiplying even large numbers with these rods is nothing but mere child’s play. Each child will get a copy set of rods true to Napier’s original ones, produced in the beginning of the 20th century as learning toys.
