Brunsviga G 89

Printing two-species segment adding machine

1955

As early as 1949, Brunsviga produced the first adding machines with a numeric keypad, the basic machine being the full keypad Brunsviga Model AS (DE 669883). The model 810 was the result of design work done by Dr. Gustav Schenk and especially Otto Wernecke, who was granted patents for details regarding the input unit of the ten-key machine. The model G 89 presented here is the version produced from 1954 onwards, which differs from its predecessors mainly in regard to the case. The machine also subtracts below zero and was built until 1958. After the merge with Olympia in 1959, Brunsviga adding machines were no longer produced. The function keys on the right accomplish subtraction, numbering (not calculating), subtotal and final total with clearing of the totalizer; the small lever can be used to set the feed for single-line or double-line printing. On the left is the key for repetition, which allows a makeshift multiplication, and the lever for erasing the pen slide (input value).
