Brunsviga Nova IV a

Four-species pinwheel machine

1927

Two variants of the Nova IV model were built between 1925 and 1934: The early Model IV had a capacity of 10 x 10 x 18, and the result unit was not divisible. Only 542 examples were made. The model IV a (from 1927, over 3000 copies) has the same capacity in the units, but the result unit can be split: Interruption of the tens transmission after the ninth digit and divisible deletion of the result unit, so that one half can be used as a storage unit. This version is shown here, which features a "total-partial" switch lever to the left of the result movement. The carriage moves in both directions only up to the 10th digit. In only about 100 copies (1930-1934), model IVa was also equipped with an electric motor and a dial. The "Nova" series, built from 1925 onwards - based on the patents of Dr. Ing. Hermann Hofmeister - saw the first use of interchangeable construction at Brunsviga: as many parts as possible of the Nova models I, II, III and IV were to be identical and usable in any machine - even as spare parts. This required a particularly high manufacturing tolerance. The variety of old models have since been discontinued and disappeared from the market. The successor model series "13" was designed according to the same principles, only somewhat smaller. Further information at FDM 7616.
