Calculation penny

approx. 1630

This calculating penny was made in Germany in 1630 and is made of copper. The coin shows wear on both sides.

The inscriptions on the front and reverse read: a) (in the centre) Rechen Pfening 1630 (outside) VRTEILLE NACH GERECHTIGKEIT; b) IUSTITIA LUX MUNDI.

The front only shows the inscription. The central designation "Rechenpfening" is uncommon.

The back shows an illustration of the standing Justitia with scales and sword and a coat of arms.

The coat of arms refers to the Saxony-Albertine line. The coin was struck during the reign of Johann Georg I (1615-1656).
