Matti Kujasalo

At the age of four Matti Kujasalo from Finland had made up his mind: I’m going to become an artist. He remained true to his dream – after a traditional training in art, he undertook travels which introduced him into the world of contemporary artists. Full of new ideas, he started working and eventually found his own particular style. Since over thirty years he has been working consistently in concrete art and developing his own system. He is continuously finding new areas of freedom within his self-imposed boundaries, which leads to very different compositions. Sometimes fine line-patterns dominate, while at other times only fine dots of light remain on a nearly black surface, like stars on a dark night. With his pictures, Matti Kujasalo irritates the viewer’s gaze and provokes the imagination. In spite of strict, calculated constraints, his art form remains free and unpredictable.
