Collections – Tribal Art

How does a collection of Tribal Art objects fit in with the aims of the Arithmeum? The answer is quite simple. Many Tribal Art objects have pronounced geometric features. The clear colors and forms of these objects are evidence of an intuitive relationship with geometric shapes which is unknown to occidental mathematics and is rarely found in our world of art.

The archaic language of forms lives by means of the direct expression of geometry. Understanding it poses no problems and emphasizes the meaning and importance of a mask or other ritual object.

In the exhibition “Intuitive and Constructive Geometry” modern geometric constructivist works of art were shown in juxtaposition with African masks, and from time to time they can also be discovered by the visitor in various small special presentations.
