Elena Lux-Marx

Concrete Perceptions

From 12th September onwards, the Arithmeum has been exhibiting works by Elena Lux-Marx. With this exhibition the Arithmeum took on a very special challenge. This Swiss artist stands out on account of her subtle, richly nuanced pictures.

Elena Lux-Marx continues the tradition established by the great Swiss concrete artists Lohse and Bill, albeit in a very feminine way. What is special about her paintings, is their precision and the elaborate use of colours. Often it is only after prolonged contemplation that the viewer sees the very fine colour shadings and understands the composition of the picture. Her prolonged grappling with the problems of the interaction of colours, which had already preoccupied Albers, has culminated in an intense and novel experience of colour.
